Heavy Duty Toddler Utensils from Ikea
Toddler dishes and spoons and such caused a bit of confusion around our house. We have a collection of all kinds of dishes and flatware, and they are all different sizes and shapes and some are much, much better than others. When we were doing baby food by spoon during the infant days, the little Gerber soft coated spoons were great, but naturally we outgrew them. And then we started the search for decent toddler utensils and plates and such. After trying about fifteen different brands, we hit the mother lode – Ikea has the best toddler utensils, plates, bowls and cups for a great price.
Ikea Toddler Wear
If you don’t have an Ikea nearby, you might be missing out – make it a point to visit one if you’re ever in a larger city that has one or browse the website, but the toddler utensils and such from Ikea are large, brightly colored and heavy duty plastic. They are almost the size of normal utensils which is good for older toddlers and preschoolers and the bright plastic is lightweight and thick making it easy for little hands to hold correctly. The bowls and cups are also bright plastic and just the right size for little ones in a nice, easy shape.
Ikea – Priced Right
Unlike most toddler sets which offer you a plate, bowl, cup and fork for about $10, you can buy 12 utensils, 4 bowls and 4 cups for about $12 from Ikea and having washed them countless times in the heavy duty dishwasher cycle, the utensils and such hold up amazingly well – they don’t chip, they don’t melt and they are easy to dry quickly when you need them.
Considerations for Ikea Flatware and Dishes
The toddler version of the dishes are the right size for babies of all ages and toddlers, but the youngest toddlers might have a hard time gripping the utensils as they are a bit larger than most you find on the shelves in the baby stores. Even if they seem too large, however, they are lightweight enough that baby can move them easily around and they plastic is rounded at every angle to not hurt anyone’s sensitive gums and teeth – unlike the metal varieties.
