Pregnancy Body Pillows – A Plush Heaven

sleepJust about every pregnant woman has seen them – the giant U-shaped pillows designed to keep pregnant women comfortable and perfectly positioned while sleeping. Pregnancy pillows are large, but then the state of the giant belly toward the end of pregnancy requires a large support system. As pregnancy progresses, the large belly and the aching back need a special something, and the pregnancy body pillows provide exactly what it is you need.

Using the Pregnancy Body Pillows
The pregnancy body pillows are not a challenge to use, by any stretch. The pillow is in the shape of a giant U or perhaps a C. To use the pillow, you simply climb inside it. When lying properly on your side, you let the curve of the pillow reach around your back and place your head on the top of the pillow while the curved bottom comes between your legs to separate your knees. The curved back portion of the pillow keeps you from rolling over onto your back and by separating your knees you’ll be in a more comfortable position for your separating hips. As your belly grows, the large pillow can even reach under the tummy to support that weight as well. The end result is a cocoon of pillow-y support when you need it most.

The Downside of Pregnancy Pillows
The biggest problem with the pillow is that it’s available in one size. That means it can be hard to get comfortable if you’re taller than average or if you’re smaller than the norm. The price of the pillow is preventative for many women as well. The pillow is most effective in the last few months of pregnancy, but many mothers are more willing to pay $50 at that point for baby items than they are for a lovely pillow. The pillows do make wonderful shower items if your shower is toward the beginning of the last trimester, and it’s a nice “I Love You” gift from your partner if you’re not able to bring yourself to buy such a pricey pillow yourself.

Pregnancy body pillows are available by many manufacturers and start around $45 – 50.
