Hyland’s Teething Tablets – Tackling Teething Nightmares

As a new parent, I was rather concerned about teething. You hear so many horror stories and chapters of parenting books are devoted to making baby feel better when faced with the most excruciating pain of his young life. Being concerned is understandable. When the first signs of teething appeared, I knew I was right to be worried. For my eldest, teething was hell. It wasn’t as bad for my youngest strangely, but then every child is different.

For my oldest, however, we quickly started trying out every suggestion we could find that was safe, legal and rational to find a solution. The two best that we found were letting him chew on a frozen waffle or bagel – the gooey crumbs just dissolve in his mouth unlike the biter biscuits that seem to break in his mouth constantly – and Hyland’s Teething Tablets.

The teething tablets are straightforward to use. Put two or three tablets under baby’s tongue when he’s in pain and the tablets dissolve almost instantly releasing their medicine and alleviating the pain. The teething tablets can’t be used frequently, but they do work wonders. We used them on the worst pains and usually just before bed when he wasn’t distracted from the ache in his mouth with play or other activities. When teething would affect his eating habits, we’d use them as well.

There are concerns about all forms of teething medicines. The best solution is to not medicate at all for teething pain. In the case of the teething tablets, the concern is a trace amount of a natural opiate in the medicine that make baby tired and can be dangerous if used constantly. However, when following the instructions, you administer the tablets sparingly and when almost desperately needed. They fix the problem dramatically and are a natural choice that doesn’t have an immediate danger as oral gels can. (There is a concern that oral gels can spread and numb baby’s throat causing gagging or choking.)
