Mega Bloks are Mega-Popular

With a toddler who adores and must emulate his big brother, it’s been tricky finding toys that both boys can enjoy. The toys a four-year-old likes are a bit too complicated at times for the little brother, but fortunately an old staple has saved us time and time again. Mega Bloks are a crowd favorite, and sitting around the box of blocks gives everyone in the family something to do together.

Mega Bloks
Mega Bloks are large, colorful, plastic building blogs. They resemble very large Legos which makes them great for children of all ages. They can be chewed on without recourse and thrown, built up and knocked down without any serious harm. The lightweight plastic blocks come in a variety of sizes that stick together firmly, but not so firmly that they can’t be separated again.

Since Mega Bloks are so large, they fit easily into the palm of your toddler’s hand and let him manipulate his own tower or castle as he builds. The blocks have large base pieces, special features such as palm trees and eyes and plenty of smaller pieces that have been the most popular at our house at least. The single blocks make terrific towers, and because they are sturdy, the blocks can be stacked taller than your child is tall, making it especially fun to knock the tower down dramatically when it’s finally constructed.

Mega Bloks For Everyone
Older children seem to outgrow toddler toys very quickly, at least in our house. But the Mega Bloks were the exception. Building is hugely beneficial developmentally and having the blocks ready to build houses, forts, bridges and castles as part of our train sets and other activities has given new life to the blocks for my older child. He’s able to get creative with the blocks and use them with other toys while his younger brother works on the basics of creating towers and forts.

Pitfalls of Mega Bloks
Outside of the sheer volume of mess that the blocks create, there haven’t been any major faults with the toy. A box or basket containing over 100 plastic blocks as big as your hand is certain to make a mess, however, so be ready to have extended pick-up times after play. But as far as price, value and quality are concerned, these plastic pieces are truly terrific.

A case of Mega Bloks starts around $20 from most toy retailers.
